FESTIVALS

The Final Cut Film Festival

In the fall of the year, Wilmington, NC is host to a 24 hour film festival called "The Final Cut Film Festival." The point of this festival is to shoot and edit a movie in 24 hours. The festival committee gives each team a list of requirements (items, locations, actions, and a mandatory line of dialogue) that must be included in the film. Filmmaker packets are handed out on Friday and the teams then have the next 24 hours to shoot and edit their masterpieces. Then the judges lock themselves away for the next 24 hours and vote on the top ten films to be shown at a screening Sunday night.

The One Take Film Festival

Similar to the Final Cut, the One Take Film Festival is a 24 hour film festival. Teams once again have a mere 24 hours to make a movie, the difference is; the film MUST be shot in ONE TAKE. No editing can be done (except in-camera edits). What this means essentially is that teams must shoot their films in order because they cannot rearrange scenes later on. Again, there are the stipulations given by the festival committee which must be adhered to. The same timeline is given for the filmmakers and the judges with a top ten screening on Sunday night.
